Washington
State Makes Money Available for Employee Training
Coming out of the great recession,
many Washington businesses need help in training newly hired or incumbent
workers with new skills and practices. Washington's
thirty-four community & technical colleges or private career and technical
colleges can help your business get the employee training it needs to be
competitive. Programs are available to help you cover the costs of employee
training when you partner with a community/ technical college or private career
or technical college. There are currently two programs available to assist your
business and your employees.
Tax
Credit and Deferred Payment
Customized Training Program
(CTP) Engage in customized training with
a college, add new jobs in Washington, and get a state Business &
Occupation (B&O) tax credit equal to 50% of the training cost as you repay
the cost of training. Your business is eligible for the
Customized Training Program if it
is A Washington State B & O taxpayer that is - Providing employment opportunities in
Washington -
Able to contract
with community/ technical college or private career or technical college
for - Short-term, customized skill

Grant
Money
Job Skills Program (JSP) Apply with a community
or technical college for grant-funded training to help your business remain
competitive. Funds are awarded through a competitive application process. JSP
dollars pay half the cost of the training project and the business provides
cash or in-kind match to cover the other half. Your business is eligible to apply for the
Job Skills Program if: • You are a Washington
employer - Your business is
in need of assistance for employee training for the purpose of
remaining competitive in the marketplace - Your
employees need skill training to ensure or
improve their employability - You
can provide dollar-for-dollar match of all grant funds - You
can
engage in short term customized skill training with a community/ technical college or private career or
