Don Brunell Scholarship for Future Business Leaders

Purpose: The Don Brunell Scholarship for Future Business Leaders was established to inspire and aid Washington's future business leaders. It is targeted to undergraduate, graduate or career/vocational students currently pursuing or who intend to pursue a course of education that will lead to a degree or certification in business from any public or private university, community or technical college, or private career school.
Frequency of Award: Annually, provided adequate funds exist and the current president of AWB determines that a qualified recipient(s) have applied.
Amount: Recipients may receive up to $2,000.
Eligibility Requirements: AWB members with children or grandchildren currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or certificate program at any post-secondary institution in or outside the state of Washington (or who will be attending within the next 12 months) are encouraged to apply. Students must have an annual grade point average of at least 3.0 An individual may only receive one scholarship per year. However, the selection committee reserves the right to award a scholarship to more than one student per year. Siblings of past scholarship winners are eligible to apply and compete for a scholarship. Preference will be given to students whose parents or grandparents are employed by AWB.
Evaluation of Applicant Responses: Pages 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the application are to be completed by the student. The student's responses will be evaluated and assigned a score based on the following point distribution:
- Leadership - 20 points
- Career/Vocational Plans - 30 points
- Work/Community Service Experience - 20 points
- Student Narrative - 30 points
Scholarship Guidelines: All written responses to application will be judged on originality, grammar, spelling, composition and clarity of thought. Three to five finalists will be chosen and given to Mr. Brunell who will select the winner.
Submission Deadline: Applications may be submitted at any time. However, applications for the coming school year must be received at AWB on or around October 15. Scholarships will be announced and awarded after January 15.
Use of Funds: The Don Brunell Scholarship for Future Business Leaders will be paid to the individual and may be used for tuition, books, housing or any other purpose that directly supports the student's education.
